Facials are deep skin treatments that cleanse, re-hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. They are customized to assist in minimizing skin blemishes, acne, dry skin, and of course wrinkles. Because the dry dead skin cells that compose the top layer of your skin have been exfoliated away, treatment serums can be properly absorbed maximizing their effect.
Facials vary depending on your skin type, the kind of treatment you’ve
chosen, the products used and your age. All facials involve a series of steps
including a cleansing procedure, massage, steaming, and the application of a facial mask. The process is designed to remove the dull, dead outer layer of cells that make up the skin’s surface, or epidermis, as well as ridding the skin of pollutants.
The massage is important during a facial as it helps blood
circulation, which in turn aids lymphatic drainage (the removal of toxins and waste from the body). A facial massage also relaxes the facial muscles and is key in
delaying the onset of wrinkles.
The face is steamed during a facial for two main reasons. First, steam helps skin
absorb nourishing serums and creams allowing for deeper penetration. Secondly, steam helps to soften blackheads and whiteheads so that they may be easily
extracted by your esthetician. Removing these while they are small helps to prevent future breakouts and enlarged pores.
Facial masks are customized and may be used to treat dry, acne-ridden skin types, or hydrate and plump mature skin types. The application of a facial mask at the end helps to tone and clarify the skin leaving it smooth and radiant.
